Common wisdom has it that a shotgun is the best gun to use for home defense. This advice is often supplemented with such encouraging comments as, “You don’t need to aim, just point it in the general direction.” Usually added to this, with a knowing look, is another supposed statement of fact that, “Just the sound of racking a shell into it is enough to get him running.” Let’s take a look at these shotgun myths.

The big surprise of this convention was in the energy and excitement it generated, and in that way it must be counted as a success, and as exceeding expectations. I think the real energy was generated by the revelation of Sarah Palin. The task of the McCain-Palin campaign now is to re-direct that excitement to the electorate.

Could I vote for someone that I liked on the other issues, but who was on the wrong side of gun rights? This year, the question is purely academic because Obama-Biden is so offensive to me on gun rights and security issues that it isn’t much of a contest, but I could imagine a situation in which I liked the candidate and platform on everything but gun rights. Obama is a charismatic. The charismatic evokes the monsters and angels of the collective unconscious, and it seems that we can never know for sure which it will be until it is over. The proper food of charismatics is human blood, and usually it is spilled in titanic proportions when the masses surrender their will to charismatic leaders.

I wonder about the Democreeps who callously joked about God sending Gustav to disrupt the Republican Convention? I wonder what they’re thinking now? Not only is that exceptionally bad theology, joking about such a thing reveals a cruel disregard for the lives hanging in the balance with this storm.
