June 28, 2008, was a defining moment in my life. It was the day I shot and killed a man in the defense of my life and the lives of others. We all have defining moments. They might not be as tragic as taking another man’s life, but they are events that change the way we look at things — or even, perhaps, how we live our lives.

I do love the .38 Smith & Wesson Special cartridge. Everyone agrees that it is one of the most accurate cartridges ever developed, sharing those honors with the .44 Smith & Wesson Special. I have several .38 Special revolvers, but next to my S&W K-38 this one is my favorite. It’s an early Model 67, Combat Masterpiece.

A tiny Texas school district may be the first in the nation to allow teachers and staff to pack guns for protection when classes begin later this month, a newspaper reported.
In response to popular demand, Yes We Can Labs has developed the Magical Talisman Gun. Hand-forged by Wiccan High Priestesses in the bowels of Mt. Mordor, the Magical Talisman Gun is forged out of an alloy of Philosopher’s Stone and Dark Matter, and work is only done under a full moon.
I’m a bit of a caliber snob, but not a mousegun hater. While I acknowledge that shot placement is generally more important than caliber, I object to the truisms that try to make all handguns equal in effectiveness. I just don’t believe that to be true, and I am not willing to tell my readers, “Oh, yeah, your .380 will work as well as a .44 Magnum.” Sorry, but there are real differences in effectiveness, and I cannot in good conscience say otherwise.
This is a perfect example of why we say the .380 is not adequate as a defensive round. This lack of effectiveness is the rule with this caliber, not the exception.
Constitutional civil rights to mean much if you can’t exercise them. NSSF is taking the lead on helping D.C. residents bring their Second Amendment rights from theory to reality. Hat tip to them!
A good place to start would be to admit that you and the government of Chicago have failed utterly and completely to keep the public safe. Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in the country. The second step would be to remember that you are a city in the United States and that your citizens have a natural God-given right to an effective self defense. It is clearly specified in the Constitution of this republic, and you cannot ignore it regardless of how hard you may try. Being a nanny city-state isn’t working, hasn’t worked and will never work.
Despite a nationwide economic decline, gun store and range workers say First Coast residents aren’t cutting back on self-protection. Jackie Miller, owner of Bullseye Gun and Pawn, said she has seen increased traffic from gun novices whose interests were piqued by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that interpreted the Second Amendment and legitimized private gun ownership.
