Old geezer vs. two armed thugs

From Rick Schwartz via the ktog list:

Police said 71-year-old John Lovell II used a licensed gun to shoot the alleged robbers at the Subway on North Pine Island Road and Sunrise Boulevard.

One customer, who stopped by the restaurant as the incident was taking place, had this to say to NBC 6’s Tisha Lewis:

“If I came by five or 10 minutes earlier, they could have caused a situation where they could have shot me. A lot of things went through my mind,” said Sebastian Shakespeare.

According to investigators, two armed men entered the restaurant, pointing guns and demanding money. Lovell turned around and saw a gun pointed at his face. Plantation police said that’s when he took the law into his own hands.

“As the customer was being forced into the restroom at gunpoint, the customer, who was in fear for his life and legally armed, shot the robbery suspects,” said Plantation Police Department spokesman Robert Rittig.

Police said one of the suspects was fatally shot in the head. He was identified as 22-year-old Donicio Ricardo Arrindell.

The other suspect, 21-year-old Fredrick Gerard Gadson, was shot in the chest and was able to run nearly 300 yards into a nearby Bank Atlantic parking lot while trying to escape, police said. Source

My letter to the Newsroom director…

Re: Subway Customer Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect

How can Mr. Lovell possibly be “taking the law into his own hands.”?

That is as biased of a statement as one can ever see in the media. Or you have a singularly stupid newswriter.

Tell me, if I pay my taxes on April 15th have I “taken the law into my own hands”? If I turn right on a red light have I “taken the law into my own hands”?

If a women knees a rapist in the groin has she also taken the law into her own hands?

You know full well the public trust in the newsmedia in under 30 percent according to the latest report released with the past few weeks.

Do you ever wonder why?

Rick

Written by another clueless, liberal reporter and basically has never heard of self defense!

I didn’t realize the law ever left my hands. Didn’t I just grant authority to government through the civil compact to exercise the law on my behalf when I wasn’t there, or able, to do so for myself?

A more accurate phrase would be self-preservation. That cannot be judged as can self-”defense.” As it is the first “law” of nature, not a “rule” of man.

JH Said it well. Since we are nearing Independence Day, I once again read the Declaration of Independence. Every American should read the important document from time to time. Great reminder of where this country came from and Why!

Something we all need to remember is the Liberal press is always going to be biased. They don’t seem to know that their statements are biased when they voice them. That is why they are so dangerous and we need to never cease our vigilance to protect our rights.

Look at the Liberal press blindness that is happening right now after Pres. Bush pardoned Libby! The press doesn’t remember that Clinton did far worse as he pardoned real criminals in the last days of his last term. Just like they choose to forget that Clintons administration heard about terrorist plots to seize airplanes and crash them into the Pentagon, the White House, and other locations. Why did Clinton get a pass on that??? Got an answer for that one, Liberals?

    Talk about hypocracy!

Why the focus on “legally armed’.

He is an American citizen. Armed is legally armed.

About time we quit accepting an unconstitutional definition or limitation on our right to self-defense also.
