Gun TV

If you are fortunate enough to get the Outdoor Channel, Wednesday night is a treat. Unfortunately The Outdoor Channel is in what I call “the high digital channels” of the cable. I don’t like that. Once upon a time, you could get them on the basic cable without an extended digital channel package, but apparently business considerations forced them to move to the extended digital area (read “more $$$ for the subscriber”).

Anyway, if you do have the digital package with a couple hundred channels, find the Outdoor Channel on Wednesday night. You will be treated to a bunch of my favorite gun broadcasters: Michael Baine with Shooting Gallery, American Rifleman from the NRA, Tom Gresham of Gun Talk, Guns and Ammo TV, and my personal favorite, my bud, Jim Scoutten with Shooting USA and Sighting In. That gives you about three hours of shows with a self-defense and sport shooting focus every week. Outdoor Channel also has a lot of shows on fishing and hunting, but I really don’t give a damn about hunting Elk in Montana.

This evening, Jim Scoutten did the IDPA Nationals, some trap shooting history, and some unbelievable trick shots from Bob Munden (Munden is a trip!). It was a treat to watch some of the best shooters in the world doing the IDPA nationals, both outdoor and indoor matches. I made it through American Rifleman but fell asleep during a hunting show that came before Shooting Gallery. Fortunately I recorded it so I can catch it tonight. This is good TV.

In terms of the companies that support this good TV with sponsorships are Smith & Wesson, Midway USA, Crimson Trace Laser Grips, Knight muzzle loaders, Springfield Armory, Henry Repeating Arms, Ruger, Kimber and others. And it does cause me to take a second look at the products of these companies knowing that they are supporting interesting and important television programming.

I concur! I subscribe to the Outdoor Channel just so I can watch the programs you listed above.

If you don’t have the Outdoor channel yet, don’t sign up. Tom Gresham and Personal Defense TV are moving to the Sportsman’s channel this fall. Maybe others, as well.

I get it al-la-cart on DirecTV, since I don’t subscribe to the premium channels…

That said, I’d like to see a re-deux on Fri or Sat nite… I’m usually out of town Wed nites, the wife usually forgets to record it.
