Transitioning the Blog and Giving Blogger the Boot
November 26th, 2006 by Syd
This is a test. This is only a test. Had this been real, you would have been told what to do.
But, so far, I’m liking Word Press a whole lot more for blogging. I have control of the whole thing, including the back end. Of course, with Blogger, you get what you pay for.
Publishing is very difficult lately with Blogger. The Word plug-in doesn’t work anymore, and even when you log onto the edit interface on the web, it times out and you can’t publish anything. I found MS LiveWriter Beta that does actually successfully interface with Blogger beta so I was able to post this week’s news, but it shouldn’t be this hard. LiveWriter also plays nice with the Word Press software too, so it’s a keeper. Really, I like the hosted blog better anyway. I feel like I have more control and I know where all of my stuff is and how to get to it, and I’m not at the mercy of Google who doesn’t seem to be handling their blogger community in a very thoughtful or considerate way. Their technical support is so disengaged from the reality of their situation that it would be laughable were it not so infuriating.
After reading the scores of others having the same problems with Blogger Beta and seeing the silly responses from the Blogger staff on the help forums, I finally just sent them an e-mail saying nothing was working, Blogger Beta is a disaster, and I’m leaving. I didn’t even ask them for help
I will continue double posting to both sites for the time being, at least when Blogger will allow me to. I have developed at least a bit of a following on the Blogger blog, and it is going to take some time to transition readers and links to the new blog.
I really hate to have to do this, but the technical situation with Blogger has become untenable.
