Texas CHL Holder Screws Up

From J.R. at A Keyboard and a .45:

As a group, Texas CHL holders are the most law abiding citizens of the state. But as in any group, there are those who do not fall within the norm. Tye Burke is one such individual. If this news report is factual, Tye Burke committed a felonious act and deserves to be punished to the full extend of the law.
Here is what he is said to have done:
From News Channel 11

Man Pulls Gun At Game, Now Charged With Assault

A Lubbock man faces felony charges, after a children’s soccer game turns violent.
Tye Burke, 25, was free on bond Monday, after authorities arrested him Saturday afternoon at the Berl Huffman Complex. Lubbock Police say he pulled a gun on another parent during a fight. Now, he’s charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon…

All I can say about this is to echo J.R.’s sentiment:

Well Tye, you done stepped in it and I hope they throw the book at you. It appears that you were the instigator in this incident, and if true, you have done us all a disservice. How long do you think it will be before Marsha McCartney and the Texas branch of the Brady Bunch use your incident against all Texas CHL holders? How long until your name is brought up in anti gun editorials throughout the United States?

This behavior is just so reprehensible and immature that words fail. When we make the decision to carry a weapon, we are binding ourselves to a higher code of conduct, one that demands self discipline and self control. We cannot and must not allow our actions to be determined by momentary fits of anger. If you lack the self discipline to control your temper, do yourself and the rest of us a huge favor and just don’t try to carry a gun. You don’t have “the right stuff.”

It’s hard enough to make headway towards making certain that our rights as free people are respected without idiots doing stupid things.

I completely agree that this guy did what he was educated NOT to do.

I don’t know about you but I often find myself filling odd moments with “what I woulda done” thoughts. What if so and so gets in your face.

Since taking my Texas CHL training I remind myself that under NO circumstances should I resort to getting loud or getting in someone else’s face, armed or not.

We don’t carry weapons to intimidate our fellow citizens. We carry them to protect ourselves, our family and our fellow citizens in that order. The firearm should stay concealed unless a threat to the above is perceived.

No, I don’t get into the face of an Obama supporter who is being an idiot. A kind word turneth away wrath. The hollow points are for those times that wrath won’t be turned away.
