Memories, dreams and reflections on guns, the right to keep and bear arms, M1911 pistols, snubnose revolvers, self defense, gun sports and anything else that comes to mind, by Syd, The author of The Sight M1911 and The Snubnose Files
I bought one of these shortly after they were offered several years ago. For the money, it’s an excellent pistol. The mil-spec sights, while apparently period-correct for the gun, are not conducive to plinking, but I guess that’s not what the gun was originally intended for anyway. I replaced the sights with some sights from King’s Gun Works and now I have a 1911 range gun that is a joy to shoot, especially with my 200 gr. RNFP lead handloads.

P.S. The magazine that came with it was junk. I bought a couple of spare Kimber magazines; they’ve worked well in the gun.
I assume you received the 8-round Novak? Yours would be the first unsatisfactory report I’ve heard about it; mine has operated extremely well, and everyone to whom I mention it nods their heads in approval, exclaiming “that’s a good magazine.”
I also have a problem with the Novak magazine. When pulling the slide back on an empty magazine the slide jams half way back (not every time but way too often), jamming the magazine in the mag well. It seems the magazine is putting pressure on the slide stop, pushing it out before the slide is all the way back.
I have also had a few problems with the Novak magazine. It seems like when i payed close attention to how i load the rounds i never had a problem. All in all it is a great pistol. i love mine
I have a different problem with the Novak magazine. It works well with 5 rounds but 6, 7, or 8 will cause the cartridge to “dive” and jam in the magazine.
I have the same RIA .45 that is pictured above with the Novak 8 rounder. However my Novak mag performs flawlessly, never had a jam or any type of malfunction from the gun or mag in the 3 years I’ve had it. Excellent carry pistol for the money.
I have not yet purchsed an RIA .45. Since my Colt Commander was stolen (SUX!!!!) I have been looking for a replacement and have tried to stay away from ‘no name knock-offs’. After a lot of research I think I will wind up with the RIA. I can do most of the mods I want and most of the reviews lead me to believe this is an excellent choice. Especially for the money. Thanks for all of you’re input. You helped a lot with an important decision.
If I decide the gun is not what it’s cut out to be, I will post again and let you know.
Its so funny that people call any 1911 gun under 500 bucks a no name knock-off. If isnt a Colt its a knock-off. Just bought the tactical model. I love that ARMSCOR is taking aim at the 1911 entry level market, considering there really wasnt one to begin with. Like most the reviews ive read and personal experience, any issue encountered with this line of firearms can be fixed with after market parts which still brings you under 500 bucks(save a comp barrel). I remember when original Colt 1911’s were being sold out of a barrel for 200 bucks. The gun is what it is a low priced re-production of a great firearm. You will not be disappointed.

I have this issue as well, but with an Armscor (which came with it), not a Novak. Though only with 8 for the most part. 7 seems to work okay. But mine is brand new (as of yesterday) so it may loosen up a bit. The extra Kimber magazine, while less attractive, works flawlessly so far.
As for the pistol itself, I am very happy with it. It’s tight, hasn’t jammed, and is quite accurate. For the money I would recommend this to anyone. But to be fair, I’ve only had it a day and shot two magazines through it.
