Was this the product of an individual’s creative mind and a little machine work or was it mass produced for the military? First time I’ve ever heard of one. That is sweet.
Tell you what, the dude handled it with aplomb! I can easily see this with one of the 40-rd drums. It’s a very professional job from what I can see. It definitely was not mass-produced, but just has the military look, so I’m betting it was a prototype or one of just a few.

Good theory. To the best of my knowledge, there never was an issue selective fire M1911.
