The Ultimate Defensive Handgun
December 5th, 2006 by Syd
The search for the “ultimate” defensive handgun continues worldwide as it has since firearm development began. Like so many of you, I have bought and tried many in this quest over the last 30 years. I have not found it and suggest that it doesn’t exist. Jeff Cooper said, “Perfection exists only in the mind of God.” While the ‘perfect handgun” might never be found, we can usually find those that are close and very satisfactory. If the greatest arms designers of virtually every nation on earth cannot come up with that ‘perfect” defense gun, it’s unlikely that we will either.
Regardless of revolver or automatic and irrespective of action type, understand that the handgun is but the tool. The mind is the weapon. It is this combination that tells the tale. Of the two, the mind is the most important. The old saying, “It’s the singer and not the song” is true. While you should buy quality, you cannot buy skill. You must develop this foundation for effective shooting so that if “the elephant” comes, you’re ready.
Let’s hope that none of us has to “sing.”
Best.
