A Good Day in Ohio!
December 12th, 2006 by Syd
Today the Ohio Senate voted 21-12 to override Governor Bob Taft’s veto of Ohio House Bill 347 [the concealed carry reform bill], joining the Ohio House’s decision to override last week. This is the first time an Ohio Governor’s veto has been overridden since 1977. If you want to know more about this bill, click here. Fourteen Democrats joined 57 Republicans to exceed the 60 votes needed in the lower chamber. All 21 votes against the override were cast by Democrats, including many who represent urban districts. Urban nanny state Democrats predictably squawked about the loss of ??home rule? (whatever that is), but it was really just a smoke screen for ??We want to write our own gun control laws.?

I can just see the Brady Campaign press release:
??From the desk of Peter Hammbone, Disinformation Director, The Brady Campaign for Criminal Empowerment:
Today the lap-dogs of the Ohio Senate did the bidding of their blood-thirsty NRA overlords and overrode the veto of the wise and benevolent Commissar Taft on Ohio House Bill 347. This reckless exercise in democracy will quickly turn the streets of Ohio into Baghdad West. House Bill 347 will allow elementary school children to carry machine guns concealed in their backpacks and legalize the sale of hand grenades and 80mm mortar rounds at the corner quick top. Funding is also allocated for research and development of personalized tactical nuclear weapons the size of cigarette lighters which will eventually replace the handgun as the weapon of choice for the well-accessorized NRA wacko. Local municipalities have been completely stripped of their power to control the deadly ordnance flooding their streets.
We regard this irresponsible action by the Ohio legislature to be a prime example of what can happen when the unwashed rabble is allowed to choose its own destiny without the guidance of enlightened saviors such as us. We consider this day a serious setback to the greater goal of bringing in the socialist workers?? paradise. We can only hope that Hillary wins the Whitehouse in ??08 so that we can return to the task of eradicating freedom and personal responsibility in all of their insidious forms.
Tonight, Sarah is pouting.
