Obama Administration Asking Job Applicants About Gun Ownership

As reported, the Obama administration’s job application requires applicants to disclose whether they or their family members are gun owners:
Question VIII (59) asks:
Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injury or property damage.
This question concerns me. I can understand inquiring whether a person has committed a crime. I can also understand asking if a person has committed a firearms-related crime in particular. What I can’t seem to find a justification for is asking about the lawful ownership of a gun by an applicant or individual.
I can’t see this as being related to Obama’s personal security. Were some crazy guy bent on assassination to apply for a job, in order to get closer to Obama, it is unlikely that he would disclose his gun ownership or do anything to raise suspicion. Furthermore, any individual or group that is would attempt such a crime would almost certainly acquire guns illegally, rather than in their own name.
I also can’t see this being related to concern over embarrassment should the prospective applicant turn out to be a criminal who has misused a gun. Asking about crimes in general would suffice to address that concern.
There really doesn’t seem to be a justification for inquiring about a citizens choice to lawfully own a gun, as the constitutional allows. Guns are less dangerous than cars, and the overwhelming majority of guns are never used in a crime. Instead, guns are use by Americans for self defense about 2.5 million times each year. Asking about lawful gun ownership seems to be a harbinger of the anti gun laws that Obama will push for in the coming years…

Yes, it isn’t his personal security or principally dodging potential embarrassment about past criminal misuse of a firearm by an applicant.
I would guess it is motivated in keeping “Nannygate”-type public relations issues from harming its relationships with allied groups such as the Brady Center, Children’s Defense Fund, and so many other “community activism” special interest groups.
The threat could be something as simple as an appointee who bought a pistol after a murder in their neighborhood 20 years ago and then failed to “responsibly” turn it into molten metal.
The next administration simply doesn’t concern itself with what gun owners think. It’s fine to be intolerant of opposing views once they’ve been labeled as being held by either nuts, bigots or both.
Many dissenting voices won’t be heard in the White House after Jan. 20. Gun owners are just one of many groups viewed as being extreme and unreasonable.
The king-elect is more alarmed about gay activists, illegal aliens, anti-war protesters, Million Mom marchers and the Greenies tuning out his change-and-keep-sending-money mantra. Like he tells them, those diverse groups make “change” possible and keep “hope” alive.
After the first 100 days and the traditional press honeymoon, the Obama image wranglers are going to have one hell of a time keeping it all together.
If nothing else, this is truly indicative of the Obama administration’s attitude toward firearms and the Second Amendment. The “respect for the Second Amendment” rhetoric of the campaign was simply a lie. The moonbats were always eager to charge W with lies. Now we have the Obamination caught in lies already and he hasn’t even been sworn in. I wonder how they will defend that?
They won’t have to.
That’s what’s most distressing about this ultimate failure of leadership. The media has their lips pressed so firmly to the toes of Barack Obama that their breath is pure Kiwi.
For all of the very real issues with George W. Bush the man was being targeted for all but about 32 seconds of his time in office. Every move he made was criticized. Every move he didn’t make was criticized.
But not Barack Obama. He makes a promise to use public financing and then breaks it “Hey, it’s okay. He’s a pragmatist!”
He lies about his relationship with a terrorist and “He was only 8 when Bill Ayers was making bombs!”
He lies about his stance on gun control and the media are right there claiming that gun owners that DON’T vote for Obama are racists.
Our only pleasure in the next 4 years will be seeing how fast the careers of Keith Olbermann, Joy Behar and Chris Matthews slide into the toilet. Without someone to rail against (and to rail against The One is racism!) they are just jerks.
